“Surakimu Lanka” National Program for Energy Security
The “Surakimu Lanka” National Program, which was created with the aim of encouraging the public to use energy sparingly, will be launched and will be officially launched on April 29.
The primary objective of this is to create a community that carefully protects energy sources.
The government is implementing this program considering the possible disruptions to the country’s energy and fuel supply due to the military situation in the Middle East region, as well as the predictions of the “El Nino” weather conditions that may occur in the future.
The government points out the dire need to utilize state resources with utmost frugality and transparency, and the main expectation is to get the public to contribute directly for national energy security.
Accordingly, this program is scheduled to be implemented for a period of five months from today.
This program is being implemented under the Clean Sri Lanka program, which is implemented with the vision of “A Prosperous Country – A Beautiful Life”, under the theme “Save Lanka – Let’s Join – Let’s Shine”.
Participation of government and semi-government institutions, as well as the private sector, civil society and the general public is expected for this.
The “Save Lanka” program will encourage people to limit their electricity use during peak hours (6:00 PM to 10:00 PM) or to carry out electricity-intensive activities during the day as much as possible.
This program does not intend to impose any restrictions on electricity consumption. However, it is emphasized that since most of the electricity generation is done on water, water consumption should also be done very sparingly in the future.
This program only aims to create a change in attitude among the public towards the economical use of energy and encourage them to do so voluntarily.
